Ha! I went the other way. For part 2 of my career, I joined the dark side by becoming a Owner's PM at the State of Nevada Public Works Division.

I've drawn 3 design sketches in the past five years. The last one being a stupid simple door in a corridor (there was a tricky bump out so I wanted the maintenance guys to avoid conflicting the wheel chair clearance).

But I can't complain, way less stressful than being in private practice.

I once read a blog positing that one can look at one's life in terms of decades and then years (and days). So I would be version 4.3.352 today

I've also pondered a version system more similar to what you did here, looking at the different cities or different professions I've been in. I should flesh that out one day. Cheers to new beginnings!

Thanks! I started with a more complicated system that I then realized no one would care about. These are common phases, and like you I can break them all down into multi-decimal versions. Very excited about the new beginnings, thanks for your thoughts and for the follow! Oh, and I’m retired from the design industry (interior architecture) so you’re speaking my language!

hahah the architect's urge to overclassify! I guess we spend too much time in spec sections....

I see your handwriting...yup definitely. I just barely snuck in before the door closed on professional hand drafting. My first two years was for a design-build firm where we hand drafted. I miss those days, pencil on vellum is more enjoyable than CAD or BIM.

But I have to admit my daily handwriting is nowhere as neat as yours. I can letter properly when I want to show off, but usually my writing is a royal scrawl.

Ya, too much time in specs and building codes! I used to love hand drafting. I moved mostly to project management around the time that CAD was adopted so I never learned it. In my last post I was Design Director so I mainly got to have fun! Haha!
